Unruh rejects seat on Carter California delegation
Los Angeles UPI report says Jesse M. Unruh, long a top California Democrat and former assembly leader, was denied an at large seat on Jimmy Carter's California delegation to the Democratic national convention after Carter’s California steering committee overruled promises from Carter officials. The dispute highlighted tensions between Brown and Carter camps as Brown supporters picked many delegates to the DNC while Carter backers argued for representation. Unruh, who had campaigned for Carter against Gov. Brown, refused the alternate delegate slot offered and left the meeting.
