Rural Manpower Services Division to boost California farm regions

Bert Kenny announced expansion of the HRD Farm Labor Office into the Rural Manpower Services Division effective July 1. The RMS will extend job placement, on the job training reimbursements, institutional training, and counseling to rural areas to curb urban migration while offering employers job analysis and local recruitment.

17 year olds allowed to enlist in Air Force this June

The Air Force will consider enlisting 17 year olds who have not completed high school through the rest of June. Citing policy, MSgt Feliz Fusco notes graduates should still apply after graduating. If a 17 year old is in school or a dropout, normal procedures apply with parental approval and possible on duty diploma.

County Moves to Study Lake Los Carneros Park Plan

The Board of Supervisors forms a representative, citizen-involved committee to study acquiring Lake Los Carneros in Goleta Valley as a county regional park. Chairman Daniel G. Grant and Park Director George H. Adams will implement the plan and talk with Boise Cascade about selling all or part of the lake area in exchange for higher density development rights. Mrs. Bratt presents petitions totaling 452 names in support, with hundreds more attached to other petitions.

Carnival and Art Show Highlight Weekend Flower Festival

Lompoc Ryan Park hosts the 19th Flower Festival with food booths 25 stations, carnival rides, outdoor art show and music. Events run Friday 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday through Sunday with parades, field tours, and a Sunday State Championship quick draw. Grand prize is an air sea voyage for two in the Pacific.

UCSB hires William H. Liskamm of San Francisco as consulting architect after UC Board of Regents approval.
