Green Beret camp under renewed siege near Ben Het
North Vietnamese forces shelled the U S Green Beret camp at Ben Het for the 20th time this month. Infantry waves attacked outposts while mercenary guards and base personnel repelled them with tear gas, mortars, and small arms fire. Casualties were light to moderate on both sides, with several Vietnamese dependents wounded and no U S deaths reported.

Youths armed with sticks rocks and bottles tried to storm the gates of an open air rock music festival at the Devonshire Downs Fairgrounds near Los Angeles. About 100 people were arrested during the three day event and roughly 600 were treated for injuries including many with cut feet from broken glass.

SDS sets elections today in split SDS meeting
In Chicago the Students for a Democratic Society declared itself the true SDS and elected a new national slate. A Maoist challenged the group, calling it anti Communist. The convention began in the Chicago Coliseum and ended in a near west side church after walkouts and factional struggles over control of headquarters files and funds.
