In California the governor plans to revive his welfare reform bill Thursday while Sen. Beilenson blocks the move with a rival plan. Marler will offer amendments to embed Reagan proposals and protect counties from higher welfare costs, but Beilenson vows to defeat them. He denounced claims of nonwork requirements and sparring accusations dominate the hearings.

After months of haggling the State of California and the federal government agreed on welfare conformity for three more months. The Nixon administration told Governor Reagan the state will receive another 210 million dollars in federal aid starting July 1. Reagan said he was extremely gratified as the two sides had fought in courts and behind the scenes over the issue for nearly a year.
