California Brush Fire Rages Across 6500 Acres On Morongo Reservation

In Banning California an arson caused brush fire on the Morongo Indian Reservation scorched more than 6500 acres as 2000 firefighters battled desert winds. The blaze threatened Banning then veered away. elderly residents were evacuated as smoke filled the area. A separate Sequoia National Forest fire burned over 100 acres of virgin timber in Greenhorn Mountain. Pilots reported smoke visible from 100 miles away. The Morongo fire began Tuesday night in rocky foothills of the San Gorgonio Mountains.

County planning actions face continuances and hearings

The County Planning Commission pursued continuations and hearings on multiple items. A rink proposal near Burton Mesa Blvd faced possible drop if alternative sites aren’t found. Free CHEC blood pressure screenings in Lompoc this weekend

CHEC brings free Community Hypertension Evaluation Clinic screenings to Lompoc from Friday to Sunday at Ryan Park in a Santa Maria Lions Club van. Nurses from Lompoc District Hospital will supervise readings, keep them private, and provide guidance on seeking medical care if abnormalities appear.
