Lompoc Flower Festival Art Show slated for weekend

About 150 California artists will exhibit at the 19th annual Lompoc Flower Festival in Ryan Park June 26 and 27. The outdoor art show, sponsored by the Lompoc Valley Art Association, runs 10 a.m. to dusk with $500 in prizes and entries due 7:30 to 8 a.m. Saturday.

Gas company seeks okay for rate hike in California

Southern California Gas Co asks the California Public Utilities Commission for 64.2 million dollars in additional annual revenue, a 9 percent rise, and an 8.5 percent return. If denied, the rate of return would drop to 5.22 percent in 1972. the request cites inflation, higher gas supply costs in Alaska Canada and the Americas, and storage needs.

Cantaloupe boycott threat looms from United Farm Workers

In Yuma Cesar Chavez says a nationwide boycott of cantaloupes will be led by the United Farm Workers Organizing Committee if the Hoague Co. signs no contract. Picket lines run in California and Arizona as 350 students replace workers earning two dollars an hour. Chavez vows to follow harvests into Mendota Firebaugh areas to pressure Hoague.

Hot Line training sessions begin in Lompoc

A series of Hot Line staff training sessions starts Tuesday July 6 from 7 to 9 p.m. in Lompoc with ongoing Tuesday and Thursday evenings for three weeks. Open to all ages 16 to 21. call RE 6 4535 7 to 12 p.m. to join.

Alpha Club Flower Show and Festival Opens June 26

Alpha Club presents the 49th annual flower show as part of the Lompoc Valley Flower Festival in California. The event runs June 26 1 PM to 9 PM and June 27 10 AM to 6 PM, with more attractions including flower arranging demos, plant care and bonsai, plus a two hour floral parade and related exhibits at Earl Warren Showgrounds.
