Thunderstorms mark widespread severe weather across nation

Severe storms hit the eastern half with tornadoes in Ohio Missouri Arkansas Tennessee Mississippi South Carolina and Florida. In Bassett Arkansas a dust storm caused a fatal pileup of six trucks and 12 cars killing five and injuring eight. One identified victim was Carl A. Clayton of Memphis Tennessee.

Budget negotiators reach $9 billion state budget agreement

Sacramento lawmakers announce a proposed budget exceeding nine billion dollars with large across the board pay raises for state workers and the largest ever state school aid boost.
