Last of Prison Escapees Recaptured in Brushy Mountain Chase

Sammy Joe Chapman and his dogs tracked and captured Douglas Shelton, the last of five inmates who fled Brushy Mountain State Prison with James Earl Ray. Shelton was nabbed after wrecking a stolen van in the New River area. Ray remained at large awaiting a new trial motion filed by attorney Jack Kershaw within 60 days.

Two Die As Car Crashes Into Tree On Highway 101

Two men died early today when their car crossed the center divider on Highway 101, swerved off the road and struck a tree at high speed 52 miles south of Los Alamos. The victims identities were withheld pending family notification.
