Chess Notes From Lompoc Valley and Solvang Clubs
The Lompoc Valley Chess Club meets Wednesdays at 7 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to noon in the Community Building 217 W Maple Ave. The Santa Ynez Valley Chess Club meets Wednesdays and Thursdays 7 30 p.m. and Saturdays 1 to 5 p.m. in Solvang Memorial Building. John Spowart dominates the Lompoc area junior field with three wins two draws in the Johns Manville tournament last Wednesday. Stephen Latus was runner up with four wins, David Wallis placed third, and others including John Rochan and Bob Korte filled the remainder of the top spots. Young players under 21 should contact the Piatigorsky Foundation for the California Tentor Tournament June 23 24 and 25. An opponent for a clock game with Spowart is hoped tonight and a Cal Jr speed tournament is planned.
