Oliver placed on two year diversion in narcotics case

In Lompoc Justice Court yesterday Claire Lucille Oliver, 25, of Mission Hills, was placed on a two year diversion program tied to narcotics charges after police arrested her February 19. If no violations occur, she will be completely free.

City council delays senior citizens building plan amid survey findings

Lompoc officials learned from resident George Johnson that seniors favor central locations over Ryan Park for a new senior citizens building. Lompoc School Board Acts on All-Year Study and Salaries

The board deferred formal action on an all-year school study requested by Lompoc Education President Al Tolstad pending fall implementation. Infant Jeffery Vandever Graveside Rites In Lompoc

Jeffery Ewin Vandever a 21 day old infant son of Mr and Mrs Bruce Vandever of 503 South I Street will be buried at 4 p.m. tomorrow at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery with Reverend Gene Ashwlck of the Church of the Nazarene officiating. He was born May 22 in Lompoc District Hospital and died Tuesday June 12 in Los Angeles Children's Hospital. Survivors include maternal grandparents Mr and Mrs Ewin Beck and paternal grandparents Mr and Mrs Charles Vandever, both of Lompoc. Starbuck Mortuary overseeing arrangements.

Council member Wahlers cautioned the panel against full commitment to a $600,000 expenditure despite receiving final plans last night. The decision paused final funding and left the fate of the project undecided.

City Budget Cuts In-Lieu Tax To Aid Electric Department

Wahlers proposes trimming the in lieu tax to bolster the electric department’s costs and offset rate hikes from PG and E. The council lowers a proposed use of federal revenue sharing funds in the police budget to about 109000. Current tax rate remains 1.68 per 100 valuation with 1.00 for general fund, 0.18 for library, 0.50 for retirement. Overall resources total 1,264,800 from various sources with 362,100 drawn from year end fund balance and 2,183,400 in current year expenditures.

Youth job center opens at Lompoc High School

A summer job placement center for youth opened at Lompoc High School beside the Adult Education Office. An adult coordinator and student assistants will help youths and employers weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through mid August under the state Human Resources Development Office, Lompoc Rotary Club and Lompoc Unified School District. The Rotary Club helped fund salaries. Youth may register for work and contact RE 6-2371 Ext. 285. The center aims to provide yard, farm, housework, window cleaning, babysitting, clerical and odd jobs.

Diving for Shells in Hawaii Lecture by James Cordy

James Cordy of Lompoc leads a June 15 lecture at 7:30 p.m. in Farrand Hall at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History. The experienced SCUBA diver will present underwater shell hunts with colored slides and exhibits.
