County tally hits 26 602 tax protest signatures

The County Election Office counts 26 602 signers on Jarvis initiative petitions filed last week. The tally will be forwarded to the Secretary of State in Sacramento as petition leaders, led by Mrs. Donald Healy of Santa Barbara, hope the measure qualifies for November or, if not, the March 1977 ballot. The initiative would cap property taxes at 1 percent of market value.
