County fears state oil suit may undercut federal action

Santa Barbara officials warn the State Lands Commission could permit tidelands drilling, undermining the county's suit against the Federal government over channel pollution. Local Motorist Collision Injures Two Teens in Vandenberg Village

CHP reports Edwin Betts and Jackie Waters, both 16, injured in a motorcycle crash with a car driven by H A Lowery in Vandenberg Village. Waters refused medical aid. Betts treated and released from Lompoc Hospital. Accident occurred at Nep tune and Mars avenues. Also notes a black dog sought for a July 25 bite at Harold Thompson Park. Marriage licenses issued in Lompoc for multiple couples including Lindsay Yantis and Deborah Chapin.

Two Santa Maria Couple Die in Highway 101 Crash

Kenneth Dale Dunham and Shirley Ann Dunham were killed in a Saturday morning auto crash on Highway 101 twenty miles north of Lompoc. Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. tomorrow at Newhart Family Mortuary in Santa Maria. Burial will be in Brighton Colorado next week. Survivors include their three children Rocky Danny and Patricia ages 15 14 and 10, plus parents and siblings.

Lompoc Teen Named First Runner-Up in Pacific Pageant

Klara Pochalonis of Lompoc was named the first runner-up in the Pearl of the Pacific beauty pageant held in Guayaquil Ecuador last week. She is a June graduate of Lompoc High School and represented the United States as the official Lomoc Jaycees entrant.

Injured Sgt Michael Ritts in Highway 246 Crash

Sgt Michael Allan Ritts 24 was treated at Vandenberg Air Force Base Hospital after a crash on Highway 246 one mile east of Campbell Road. He suffered a concussion and a fractured arm, with minor injuries reported after his car rolled into a gully.

Hearing set for Solvang underground utility district

The Santa Barbara Board of Supervisors approved a public hearing in Santa Barbara on Aug 18 for PG&E to seek an underground utility district in Solvang. The two year project covers Alisal Rd Park Way and Copenhagen Dr with funds for the county and other areas. The plan mirrors earlier districts begun in 1968 and 1969 in Montecito Village.
