House backs federal limits on coal strip mining

The House joined the Senate in approving a bill to curb strip mining, aiming to restore stripped lands to their original contour and set aside 200 million dollars yearly from offshore leases for reclamation. Deadlock on 200 mile sea limit at U N conference

At the Third U N Sea Law conference developing nations pressed for a 200 mile territorial sea while major powers backed 12 miles. Israelis Move On Jewish Squatters On Seized Land

Israeli army surrounded about 150 Jewish settlers and 2,000 supporters who erected a temporary outpost in the West Bank near Sebastia and Nablus after bypassing barricades. Defense Minister Shimon Peres agreed to meet two leaders of a right wing party backing the settlers amid stalled peace talks with Jordan. The government bans settlements in the Sebastia area and northern Samaria due to Arab-majority populations and possible future Jordanian return under a peace deal.

Reinecke labeled liar or candid simple guy in perjury trial

In closing arguments California Lt. Gov. Ed Reinecke is called a liar by prosecutors and a candid, simple man by his lawyer. Nixon poll rating plunges to new low

A Gallup Poll taken July 12 to 15 among 1,555 people in over 300 localities shows only 24 percent approve of Nixon's conduct in office, 63 percent disapprove, and 13 percent have no opinion.
