First Woman Completes Solo Pacific Crossing

Sharon Sites Adams, a sailing instructor, finished a 6000 mile solo Pacific voyage in 71 days from Yokohama aboard Sea Sharp II. She greeted Al Adams near Point Hueneme, reported in a ship to shore call, and said she needed to talk and wash her hair. Her boat Aikani, from Marina Del Rey, stayed within five miles but lights were weak all night.

Queen selection at Santa Barbara County Fair finals

The 1969 Santa Barbara County Fair opened at noon with crowds. Ranchers Rally To Protest Tax Increases In Lompoc

About 200 ranchers from Lompoc and nearby communities gathered at Grange Hall for a third tax protest meeting led by Veril Campbell. They urged filing protests before August 26 and discussed a possible tax strike amid sharp exchanges with Ronald Welch and others.
