Oil waste line spills on Surf beach at Orcutt

A 24 inch Union Oil waste line exposed on Surf beach discharges hot sulphuric water into a man made ditch toward the ocean. District manager Kenneth Stratke says floods clogged the end. crews with roto routers and high pressure water have failed to unstop it. The water, treated and containing no soluble pollutants, is near the State Water Pollution Control Board limits while fumes drift toward Ocean Park.

County advances plans for long term water and flood control

County officials review a timetable for U S Bureau of Reclamation studies to guide a future water program for the county and flood control along the Santa Ynez River from Cachuma to the sea. Supervisors Adopt 54.3 Million Budget With Tax Rise Hopes

The Board of Supervisors approved the 54.3 million expenditure portion of the 1969-70 county budget and signaled a potential five to nine cent increase over the 2.32 tax rate. Nixon in California on leg of round the world journey

President Nixon arrived in California on the 11 day round the world trip carrying the moon astronauts message of peace. Air Force jet landed at San Francisco International Airport at 12 20 am PDT and will depart across the Pacific later today. He will visit Johnston Island and the USS Hornet to talk with the returning moon astronauts.

Yellow dresses and color bursts at Lompoc Record back shop

In a coincidence at the Lompoc Record back shop on Tuesday, every girl wore yellow. Three later appeared in red white and blue while Bill Hobbs barbecued steak in a station wagon traveling 40 mph and E C Stevens spilled coffee over his desk after spotting a fly in his cup. A Chamber of Commerce booth at County Fair drew excellent reception.
