Toastmistress Convention Echoes Leadership Skills and Guests

Members gathered in Phoenix for the 30th International Toastmistress Clubs convention at the Westward Ho with 700 attendees. Jean Weber of Los Angeles named international president, Ai Yokota of San Francisco elected treasurer, and speakers included Mayor John Driggs Raul Castro and Mrs Will Rogers Jr. The event showcased leadership themes and new public relations aims ahead of the 1972 Miami convention.

Pioneer Day Observances Highlight Mormon Celebration

Local Mormons mark Pioneer Day July 24 with a full day of activities in Lompoc and Lompoc Second wards. A parade from the church to Thompson Park crosses at 11 a.m. with police escort, lunch, games, and a 2 p.m. talent show and dancing at the church. A chuck wagon dinner follows at 5 p.m. and a program titled The Place features local members telling pioneer stories. Music and dances follow, with square dancing 8 to 10 p.m. under Col. Clark O Holland’s direction.

Stole and tassel ceremony planned by Women of the Moose

A red stole and red tassel ceremony will be held Sunday July 25 at the Moose Home in Lompoc. Honorees include Mrs. Kenneth Sorenson and Mrs. Russel Hodges for red stoles and Mrs. Frank Milam for a red tassel. Special guest Mrs. Harry Mahaffey arrives from Oakland as investing officer.
