County planners face budget questions and call for audit

City Water Committee Reviews Possible 20 Percent Rate Hike

A three member subcommittee of the water commission spent three and a half hours reviewing a water rate adjustment. They considered alternatives from a 20 percent increase to no increase and discussed eliminating the minimum charge and tying water costs to a living index. The group will reconvene Thursday and next Monday to compile data for final recommendations.

Lompoc Hospital Directors to Review Building Program at Noon

Lompoc Hospital District directors plan a noon meeting in the hospital to discuss the proposed building program. Area Council of Lompoc meets 7:30 p.m. at the Community Development Center to plan a potluck and elect a representative to the Community Action Commission Board. Captain Arthur T. Liggins of SAMTEC will address the Vandenberg IEEE luncheon at the Officers' Club starting at noon with a film included. Reservations are $2.25. call numbers provided by Wednesday. Mexico and U S join fight against sleeping disease

Mexican and United States health officials launch a coordinated response to Venezuelan equine encephalomyelitis, a mosquito borne illness killing thousands of horses in Mexico and Texas. Spider kills: brown recluse blamed for fatal infection

An auto mechanic, Thomas Conger, 55, died after a spider bite on his calf in the Sierra foothills. Doctors suspect the brown recluse venom caused a severe bacterial infection leading to his death at Kaiser Hospital in Oakland two days after the July 10 bite.

Library board approves 1971 72 budget in Lompoc

The Lompoc library board approved a budget of 185 045 for 1971 72 with 19 000 in new revenues from the Board of Supervisors and 600 in capital outlay funds. County per capita support rose to 2 75, helping hold the 18 cent tax rate while funding postage supplies publications utilities and new disbursement services.
