Russia Says Luna 15 Won't Interfere With Apollo 11 Flight

Space Center Houston reports Russia assured Col Borman by phone Luna 15 would not intersect Apollo 11 trajectories. Kraft and Lunney noted Luna 15 in 85 to 179 mile lunar orbit with no confirmed landing plan, while American officials guess the craft may attempt lunar material retrieval.

SPACE CENTER Houston UPI Apollo 11 remains on a precise course three quarters to the moon as astronauts Armstrong Aldrin and Collins prepare the Eagle lander for a Sunday touchdown They slept well and ground control cancelled a third midcourse correction with a possible fourth to occur Saturday The crew will enter the lunar lander at 5 47 p m and spend about two hours checking it out aiming for a safe surface arrival.

Mansfield Rejects New Pleadings On Surtax

Senate Democratic Leader Mike Mansfield rejected new Nixon Administration pleadings for prompt passage of the income surtax extension. He said he would not call up the House passed extension at this time, arguing it would hurt wage earners, salaried employees, the Senate, the President, and the nation. Republican Leader Everett Dirksen urged action on the floor to allow lawmakers to work their will.

Gallery opening slated tonight in Lompoc

The Lovartas Art Gallery hosts a grand opening at 7 30 tonight at the shopping center on V Street and West Ocean Avenue. LVAA officials say 300 invitations were mailed Tuesday afternoon with some leaders missing invites. Mayor Robert MacClure and other dignitaries will attend the ribbon cutting and champagne reception. Symington scraps plan for second ABM secret session

Senator Stuart Symington cancelled a proposed second closed Senate session on the Safeguard antiballistic missile program. He said no further briefing on classified Pentagon documents was needed, potentially speeding the ABM showdown on the Senate floor amid an evenly split debate. Weather notes: coastal highs 60s inland 80s to 90s with tides listed for July 19.
