The Loyal Order of Moose sponsors a barbecue beer dinner and dance for members and guests at the Moose Lodge on 921 W. Laurel. Serving runs from 7 to 9 p.m. Johnny West's band will provide the music and donations of 3 dollars per person are requested.

Funeral services for Barbara Jean Hill will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Saturday at 10 am with Rev. Kenneth Boyd officiating. Private inurnment will follow. Arrangements by McPeek Family Mortuary. Hill, daughter of Edward and Mrs Hill of Lompoc, died in a traffic accident on Highway 10 near Las Virgenes Canyon Road. She was 18, born July 9 in Springfield Massachusetts, a Lompoc High School graduate, and attended Allan Hancock College. She is survived by her parents, sister Ellen Hill of Los Angeles, and two aunts and an uncle.
JACK F. HELMAN of Western Electric and Lompoc has been elected president of the Lompoc Unified School District Board of Trustees. He succeeds Archie Nagle. Marge Thomas becomes vice chairman and Nagle remains clerk. Regular meetings stay on the second and fourth Tuesdays at 3:30 p.m with possible evening sessions as experimented last year.
Two 18 year old California girls attending a Japanese American convention were found with slashed throats in a seventh floor room at the Palmer House in Chicago. Evelyn Okubo died. Carol Yamada survived with emergency surgery and injuries. Police found three notes and no suspect. The crime disrupted the 21st biennial meeting of the Japanese American Citizens League.
