Quiet weekend in Belfast as violence dips in Northern Ireland

Belfast saw its quietest weekend in months with only one bombing injuring four. No shootings were reported, and authorities credited British Army evidence suggesting the Provisional IRA has been largely eliminated in several Belfast strongholds.

France poised to start 1973 atmospheric nuclear tests

French officials signaled readiness to begin the 1973 atmospheric nuclear tests in the South Pacific at Mururoa atoll despite protests at home and abroad. Skylab countdown proceeds toward July 28 launch

The countdown for Skylab 2 began smoothly at 11 p.m. EDT as Alan Bean Jack Lousma and Owen Garriott prepare for a 56 day stay aboard the orbiting lab. A 7:08 a.m. Friday practice launch kicks off the sequence with a dress rehearsal and tests of the command module and Saturn 1B rocket.

Senator Inouye presses Nixon on Watergate subpoenas

Senator Daniel K. Inouye said Nixon is in trouble over Watergate and should come forward with papers and himself to clear up the matter. He would support subpoenaing presidential documents if the White House withholds them from the Senate committee, viewing public judgment as a great jury.
