The Senate voted 61 to 29 to reject a Mondale Bayh amendment proposing an eight month study of a Canadian routing for a 789 mile Alaska pipeline and to back a straight right of way for the project. The body also defeated Eagleton on a similar study motion while approving Buckley funding for Alaskan native programs from expected North Slope revenues.

B52 Pullout Begins in Southeast Asia
The Pentagon announces a limited initial B52 withdrawal from Southeast Asia ahead of the August 15 deadline to end U.S. participation in Indochina. Commission Deliberates Case of Two Sheriff Deputies
