Police raid San Diego Black Panther quarters
Police raided a Black Panther headquarters in Logan Heights San Diego after two deaths and rioting the night before. Officers seized two rifles a shotgun and gas masks. Seventeen arrested on minor charges. 200 police patrolled the area under emergency measures amid Molotov cocktails arson and looting in Mountain View Park.

Sex Ed Bill Advances to Assembly Floor
A Senate approved bill allowing parents to opt their children out of sex education or family life classes moved to the Assembly floor. The measure by Sen. John G. Schmitz cleared the Assembly Education Committee on a split vote with one Democrat March Fong and six Republicans voting yes.

Cross-eyed Daktari lion Clarence dies in Peoria
Clarence the cross-eyed lion of the Daktari TV series died from a digestive ailment. Gentle Ben will replace him in the show. Clarence, 8 to 10 years old, was to be cremated as announced by William Owens of Ivan Tors, at the Heart of Illinois Fair in Peoria where he was to appear.
