Kidnapping Charges Dismissed In Lompoc Case
A Lompoc man faced kidnapping charges that were dismissed by Judge Terrill F. Cox of the Lompoc Justice Court. He was ordered to appear in Santa Maria Superior Court on July 30 after an arrest at his home on July 2. Accident ruled in shooting at Santa Ynez River campground
A coroner's inquest found the death of 18 year old William Carter of Lompoc Valley accidental. Robert Gilbert of Carson testified his shotgun discharged accidentally during a confrontation after midnight while Carter and others allegedly sought to steal food from campers. Mrs Dellinger of Oxnard said she heard shouting and saw Carter threaten Gilbert's son before the shot. Additional witnesses indicated the group intended to steal food chests while campers slept.
