Interest in pier revival delays funding plans

The Board of Supervisors kept an active interest in the Ellwood Pier project while adopting a wait and see policy after Parks Director Michael H. Pahos advised against using oil royalties this year to fund the 1.118 million dollar recreation effort. He warned it would deprive other park projects of 157000 dollars in needed improvements this year. The panel also planned project by project use of park reservation fees and began campground paving on Santa Ynez Indian Reservation with a 210000 dollar improvement budget funded by the American Revolution Bicentennial Project. David Baker will attend his first Santa Ynez Valley High School District trustees meeting as superintendent, succeeding George B. Smith.
