Cachuma rate hike proposed for camp fees

The County Park Commission urged raising overnight camping fees at Lake Cachuma County Park from $1.50 to $2 starting next January to generate about $30,000 for the 1969 70 fiscal year. The panel also recommended selling the Jalama County Beach Park concession to Seymour Fowler of Tujunga due to the current concessionaire health reasons. Two 14 year old boys were detained after setting gasoline fires on a Vandenberg Village street. minor damage occurred and officials will consult with the youths and their parents.

McCarthy Stays GOP After Senate Shakeup

UPI reports San Rafael Senator John F. McCarthy will remain a Republican after being ousted from the five member Rules Committee. He cited ongoing party loyalty, though noted openness to change, saying he will run and vote as a Republican while considering future moves. A broader shakeup saw Clarence Alexander resign as executive secretary of the Rules committee and James Jensen named as secretary amid pay raises for Senate staff.

Bunker Talks With Thieu In Vietnam Meeting

American ambassador Ellsworth Bunker met President Nguyen Van Thieu for a second time in as many days. Embassy spokesmen said the mid morning talk lasted about thirty minutes with subjects not disclosed.

Toras Barraza Torres held to answer narcotics charges

Arturo Barraza Torres 19 pleaded not guilty in Lompoc Justice Court to felon narcotics charges. He was arrested June 28 in the 800 block of N H Street and released on his own recognizance for a July 18 Santa Maria Superior Court appearance. A separate brush fire two percent acres near Sudden Ranch south of Lompoc was blamed on a welding torch left by a workman.

County bids on two story Engineering Building addition

Four bids were opened on the proposed two story County Engineering Building addition in Court House Square. J W Bailey Construction Co of Santa Barbara submitted the low bid at $393,? The article notes the low bid was $28,112 under the $421,000 estimate with other bidders Kenneth Orton Don Greene and Thielmann Construction Co all from Santa Barbara. Police recover 24 stolen window air conditioners

In St. Louis Missouri police recovered 24 stolen window air conditioners valued at $3 300 as officers closed in on the thieves. The raid followed a string of break ins and involved city detectives and regional authorities.

Untrained dog becomes "seeing eyes" for owner

The two year old German shepherd named Star acts as a seeing eye dog and protector for Thelma Goodrich who has suffered severe eye impairment for two decades. Star has alerted to dangers such as a black widow spider presence and a failing wall heater that could have caused a fire.

The 50th anniversary Santa Barbara National Horse and Flower Show begins at Earl Warren Showgrounds with 3000 seat arena and 35000 square foot flower pavilion.
