Student builds blood reconstituting machine at Cal Poly

San Luis Obispo Cal Poly senior Fred Hollis designed and built two agglomeration cell washing machines for the Tri Counties Blood Bank. The devices reconstitute whole blood from separated red cells using saline and glycerine, reducing cost from about 10 000 to 350 400 dollars per unit. Hollis studied with advisor Ray Wysock on the project begun in Fall 1970, with completion last quarter.
