Nixon concedes economic goals now beyond reach
Washington reports that the Nixon administration admits January targets for GNP growth inflation and unemployment are unattainable this year. Council of Economic Advisers chair Paul W McCracken told the House Senate Economic Committee that stubborn inflation and recession will persist though diminish as Nixon moves toward reelection. He noted a 4 percent inflation rate remains achievable but other goals, including unemployment at 5 percent and 4.5 percent later, are unlikely.
