Santa Barbara County debated freeway plan and environmental impact
State and federal agencies were asked for comments on the environmental draft while a 90 day period was suggested for review. Citizens debated route choices for a Santa Barbara crosstown freeway linking Lompoc to Santa Maria with I 20. Opponents urged designating I 20 as a state route and opposing a new fast freeway for environmental and community reasons.

Lompoc Eyes Rest Stop Plan On Old City Dump Site
Lompoc considers turning 12 acre northeast parcel, known as the old city dump, into an overnight rest stop with up to 140 mobile sites if the state develops the land. The state has appraised the site at 17900 dollars and offered 8950 each to the city and county, with the county already accepting. The city may seek a higher appraisal if the land becomes a rest stop rather than a dampsite.
