Pentagon study cites McNamara claim of 1000 civilian deaths weekly

McNamara told Johnson in 1967 that U S bombs were killing or seriously injuring about 1000 civilians a week in North Vietnam. The memorandum urged limited bombing and questioned the war’s payoff. The Pentagon study notes Johnson gave a cool reaction and did not adopt the policy changes.

Reagan Aide Calls Nixon CRLA Accord a Victory for the Poor

Edwin Meese III called the Nixon Reagan agreement to extend CRLA a victory for the poor. The plan issues 2.7 million to extend CRLA 17 months under new conditions while a separate California Legal Services Foundation would operate with 2.5 million in an experimental setup overseen by state officials.

Crocker Citizens National Bank Rebrands as Crocker Bank

Crocker Citizens National Bank today shortened its name to Crocker Bank as part of a broader rebranding. Chairman Emmett G. Solomon announced a new symbol and alphabet to accompany the shorter name aimed at strengthening community image and tying the unit to Crocker National Corporation. The change includes updating all 283 California bank signs.

Undersheriff Lawrence Marshall to take office in Santa Barbara County

Park approves U S efforts with Peking in inaugural address
