Referee Fred Swearingen's pivotal Raiders Steelers call
In a tense 1970 playoff moment at Oakland, referee Fred Swearingen ruled a touchdown after the Terry Bradshaw pass bounced off players Fuqua and Tatum. The decision sparked controversy and raised questions about league intervention and officiating ethics. Swearingen sought guidance from Art McNally and defended his action amid public scrutiny and NFL implications.
