Julia Gay Kintzel retires after 23 years as secretary to Santa Ynez Valley High School Principal Manuel Silva. She began under Hal Hamm and witnessed enrollment grow from 234 to 832. Former students now staff the school offices, library, and cafeteria, preserving her long service record.

Los Olivos Improvement Association directors back widening Alamo Pintado Ave east of Grand Ave to Highway 154 to 60 feet with curb gutter and sidewalk deeds from property owners. They seek widening of 40-foot front of the Los Olivos School and plan bylaw changes including meeting schedule and group name change. The next meeting is March 16 at the Grange Hall.

County panel approves 13 ag preserve adds in county plan
The County Planning Commission recommended 13 agricultural preserve applications for approval, adding 4 779 acres to the program. As of Oct 1 parcels must be large enough to stand alone as preserves if sold or sizeable enough to be annexed. The 13 preserves include 12 in Cuyama and Ventucopa and one 983 acre Gildred land in Santa Ynez Valley. The largest property is 1 532 acre Koster Farms in Cuyama. A Santa Barbara Hi 4-H event is set for Feb 5 at the Stephens home with pool party and leadership talks, and signups for Camp and Exhibit Day.

Hospital auxiliary annual meet at Buellton
Santa Ynez Valley Hospital Auxiliary held its annual meeting in the Juliette Room at Pea Soup Anderson's in Buellton. Mrs. Richard Shelton became president, succeeding Beulah Ourston, who served two terms, the first member to lead two consecutive years.
