Lompocan to visit Mexican President

Malena De Esquivel, a Lompoc journalist and social worker, will fly to Mexico City this Sunday to meet President Luis Echeverria Alvarez between January 29 and 31. She aims to discuss Mexican cultural education for Mexican Americans and government support for cultural programs.

Church seeks larger sign for Solvang church

The First Baptist Church of Solvang seeks a 78 square foot sign, over three times the county maximum, to attract visitors from Buellton and Solvang. The County Planning Commission delayed to Feb 14 and referred the case to the Santa Ynez Valley Planning and Zoning Committee after staff recommended denial. Two Janin Way residents oppose the request.

SBA official visits Lompoc and aids rink project

Edward W. Jenks, director of the Los Angeles district SBA, met local bankers and business leaders in Lompoc and announced SBA help for three Lompoc Junior High School teachers toward leasing a roller skating rink proposed by David Benchoff and associates on Burton Mesa Boulevard near Constellation Road in Vandenberg Village. The district office employs about 300 people and guarantees loans around 100 million yearly with a loan portfolio near 500 million. Jenks stressed SBA loans aim to spur small business and that the agency is the smallest in federal jurisdiction reporting to the President.

Kissinger to Stay at White House as Policy Adviser

Lompoc Fire Hydrant Tests Sunday Affect Local Water

Lompoc Fire Department will test hydrants Sunday from 9 a.m. to noon at Peach Ave intersections with Third Fourth and Fifth streets Hickory and First Bluff and Second Mango with Third and First Cypress and Fifth. Water may discolor during testing and residents are asked not to use water. If discoloration persists after noon run time exceeds 10 minutes and call RE 6-4513.
