Minuteman ICBM Launch Reports From Vandenberg AFB

A Minuteman ICBM launched at 1 45 a m today from Vandenberg AFB by a Strategic Air Command crew of the 190th Strategic Missile Wing from Minot AFB North Dakota. The missile stayed on course over the Western Test Range. A separate fire at Red Star Industrial Laundry in An area on 139 5 S A St started before 5 p m with damage but no injuries reported as investigators probe the ignition source and vent fire mechanism.

Elected Arthur Heinrich heads Friends of the Libary

Arthur Heinrich elected president of Friends of the Libary succeeding John Peto. Other officers named at the Public Library meeting include Mrs. William Bastedo as vice president Mrs. Frank Chilberto secretary and Dr. Joe M. Johnson treasurer. Bylaws revised and six stereo headsets plus 18 picture holders approved.

Planning official outlines phased study of service duplication

County Planning Director Herbert Divelbiss said the Public Services Allocation Study will be partially finished by May with a July start for a second phase. The $30,000 federal grant funds the project which aims to reduce overlapping public services and save taxpayers money.

Six charges dropped in Santa Barbara referendum case

Six of nine felony counts against two senior Santa Barbara women in the El Capitan Ranch referendum case were dismissed for lack of evidence. Judge John T. Rickard upheld one count against Selma Rubin and two against Anna Laura Myers, with trial set for February 17.
