Superintendent Maynard Strong resigns to lead Solvang district

Wholesale prices rise sharply in a year’s largest boost

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports a 0.6 percent unadjusted wholesale price rise in January, the biggest since last January, with farm product prices up 1.7 percent and industrial commodities up 0.3 percent. The gain challenges the Nixon administration’s inflation outlook amid a recovering but troubled economy. The leading indicators index also rose 1.4 percent in December.

Master contracts declared not authorized by law by Wegner

School Supt. Glen Wegner told the board the district’s legal counsel ruled master teacher contracts “not authorized by law.” He cited LEA efforts to push the concept and said the district cannot negotiate such contracts. The board received no comment on the point.
