Storm Hits Pacific Northwest With Heavy Rain Snow Gusts

United Press International reports another January storm striking the Pacific Northwest bringing gale warnings along the coast. Colville, Washington saw at least three inches of fresh snow in six hours while Cape Blanco Oregon recorded gusts to 79 mph and over four inches of rain in 24 hours.

Griffin Named Deputy Chief of Staff Operations at Vandenberg

Col Ralph O Griffin was appointed Deputy Chief of Staff Operations for the 1st Strategic Aerospace Division at Vandenberg Air Force Base succeeding Col Raymond Sampson. A 1942 veteran, Griffin flew 24 WWII missions, later holding multiple SAC and ARDC posts and directing the Missile Training Division. He is married to Mary Louise Edwards and has three children.

Police issued an all points bulletin for a 22 year old man about 5 feet 7 inches tall suspected of beating and stabbing four young women in Oct and Jan. Attacks began Oct 11 in Carson and continued Oct 19 in Long Beach then Jan 17 in El Segundo.

County Supervisors Back Conference On Drug Youth Issue

The Board of Supervisors unanimously endorsed a Monday conference with law enforcement, judges, educators, and health officials to attack narcotics impact on youth. Lompoc Planning Commission denied David Bickmore's request for a home based tax counseling telephone service permit by a 4 to 0 vote. Proponents cited limited use and opposition warned it harms downtown welfare. Allied forces uncover munitions caches ahead of Tet

UPI reports Allied Command says forces found several tons of rockets and ammunition stockpiled for attacks before Tet beginning Feb 6. In Vietnam 1.5 tons were found northwest of Saigon by the 25th Infantry Division, with other dumps located near Pleiku and 75 miles northwest of Saigon. Meanwhile 3,000 Marines begin withdrawal to the United States as the third phase reduces U.S. troops by April 15 to 110,000. Civilian casualties rise in the Mekong Delta following a mine strike near Tra On.

Hancock Auditions for Billy Buddy Stage Production
