Hoedown beginners start 16 week class in City Hall

Lompoc residents are invited to a 16 week level beginner hoedown in City Hall auditorium from 8 to 10 PM starting Monday. The event invites currently enrolled beginners and inactive dancers to join the program.

Clarence Bacon 79 Dies. Graveside Service Planned in Lompoc

Clarence Frederick Bacon 79 died yesterday at Kimberly Rest Home in Santa Maria. Graveside services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery with Rev Kenneth Boyd officiating. Born February 25 1891 in Pleasant Grove Utah he moved to Lompoc in 1932 and managed Puritan Ice Co retiring in 1941. He lived at 5195S LSt. Survived by three sisters Mrs Bert Hale Mrs Ella Bodell Mrs Jessie Woolsey and a brother Hugh Bacon.

County Addiction and Drug Abuse Committee Faces Funding Shortfalls

Commission funds asked for budgeted support to hire a professional director and cover expenses for the new County Addiction and Drug Abuse Committee. Lorenzo Dall Armi warned that without adequate funding from the Board of Supervisors, the program may fail. The group, led by Wilbur Wheaton as first chairman, held its session in Santa Ynez with a next meeting planned for Feb. 17.

William O. Allen Named Carrier of the Year

William QO Allen, 16, son of Calvin and (address) Sumac Ave, received the Record’s Carrier of the Year award at Grange Hall with over 100 guests. He signed 139 new subscribers, had no complaints, and was honored while his mother accepted the trophy in his absence due to a wrestling match in San Luis Obispo. Stephen P. Wilson, 14, was runner up.

Budget report signals austerity for county in 1971 72

Administrative Officer Raymond D. Johnson advances a mid winter county budget report predicting a deteriorating cash balance and declining revenues amid growing funding requests. The plan, to be presented to the Board of Supervisors Monday, could set the tone for county spending cuts in the upcoming fiscal year starting July 1.

Haskell Low Bidder on Los Olivos Road Project

Eldon Haskell of Santa Barbara submitted the apparent lowest bid of 434 795 dollars, about 20 percent under the engineer's estimate for a Route 154 project between Route 101 and Alta Street Los Olivos. The plan expands a 3 mile segment to 40 feet with shoulders asphalt and a slight realignment plus a new Alamo Pintado Creek bridge.

Open house for Goleta jail to draw public scrutiny

The county plans an open house this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the new Goleta Valley jail, a $3.2 million facility expected to relieve overcrowding. Women prisoners may be housed there by Feb 1 with unsentenced transfers Jan 31. men prisoners will move later.
