Nixon plans new hike in Social Security taxes
President Nixon plans to ask Congress for up to 62.40 more in Social Security taxes from workers earning over 7800 a year by raising the taxable wage base from 7800 to 9000 effective January 1 1971. The plan targets about one in five workers and would add several hundred million dollars to federal revenues in the first year.
