Lompoc mayoral race set for April election

Carswell Predicted to Win Senate Confirmation

Washington reports both liberals and conservatives expect Judge G Harold Carswell of Florida to be confirmed to the Supreme Court with little resistance. Nixon nominated Carswell on Monday to fill the seat left by Abe Fortas. Eastland set hearings for January 27 and predicted a smooth path to confirmation.

Lost boys found in Pismo Beach

Two Santa Maria boys missing since Sunday night were found by calling their parents from a motel in Pismo Beach. Deputies said the youths Rusty Burns 13 and Glen Pilkington 12 were in good condition and later picked up by their parents. The boys had gone with an uncle to sand dunes near Guadalupe before going to the dunes.

Lompoc Officials Oppose Nearby Agriculture Preserves

City council and planning commission voiced opposition to agriculture preserve applications within one mile of Lompoc. A special dinner session at the Colonial Inn led to a plan to pass a resolution opposing preserves, while offering a future annexation option. The group also discussed better interdepartmental communication and a full time industrial relations consultant to attract industry and improve transportation.
