No decision on payday changes in Santa Barbara County
The county announces no decision yet on shifting payday from the first to the fifth working day. A meeting with the Santa Barbara County Employees Association negotiating committee and officials followed public questions and protests from about 2000 employees. The group, including Assistant Administrative Officer Paul Floyd, heard that a letter to start negotiations would arrive Monday.

Air Force unit earns Outstanding Unit Award for space defense
Sergeant Gilbert J. Pavlicek of Dickinson North Dakota helped the 10th Space Defense Group earn the U S Air Force Outstanding Unit Award. The group based at Vandenberg AFB was cited for aiding space and defense posture and elevating the Aerospace Defense Command and Air Force prestige. Pavlicek is a security policeman at Johnston Island and a Central High School graduate. His wife Barbara is from Lompoc California.
