Howard to play in Japan with Taiheiyo Lions

Former Dodgers slugger Frank Howard signed a one year contract with the Taiheiyo Lions of the Japan Baseball League after his release by the Detroit Tigers. The 37 year old was a 1960 NL Rookie of the Year and previously led the American League in slugging percentage in 1968.

Youth Soccer League Opens 1974 Season in Lompoc

The Lompoc YMCA Junior Soccer League begins its 1974 season with six Saturday games split between La Canada and Los Padres schools. The league expanded to 12 teams in two divisions with over 170 players, including about 25 girls. Games start at 10 1130 and 1.00.
