Park feasibility study underway in Lompoc

Lompoc Parks and Recreation Commission begins a feasibility study for a 9.3 acre county owned park between the Shopping Center and Lompoc High School. Proposed uses include event space, displays, and a tractor skills area for agriculture classes. The panel will meet county officials to assess time limits, recovery of costs, and possible city school district joint venture.

Opposition grows over Buellton plant and Hope stables permits

County Planning Commission reports rising opposition to conditional use permits for a hot mix plant in the Buellton area and horse stables in the Hope Ranch area west of Santa Barbara. Appeals hearings before the Board of Supervisors set for January 18 include protests by William Davison and a petition signed by more than 100 people. The panel also noted opposition to the Music Academy of the West rehearsal hall in Montecito, with its hearing planned for Monday.

County approves 33 more agricultural preserves in Santa Ynez area

The county commission backs 33 additional preserves expanding the statewide program. Most sites are in north county communities including Santa Ynez Valley Buellton Lompoc and Santa Maria valleys with Bixby Ranch Co. property near Pt Conception the largest at 10766 acres. Planners expect the total acreage to approach 350000 acres next year as remaining eligible land is mapped.

Buellton approves sewage plant expansion plan

Buellton's proposed Community Service District sewage treatment plant expansion won approval from the County Planning Commission. The project, budgeted at $90,000, will increase capacity to meet current and future needs and is sited south of State Highway 246 and west of Buellton Parkway amid other town developments.
