Allied forces report 130 North Vietnamese and Viet Cong killed over two days near the Laotian border and Da Nang. US casualties 6 dead 20 wounded. The 15 000 strong 1st Infantry Division to be withdrawn by April 15 along with other units. Marines report heavy fighting and several enemy casualties near A Shau Valley close to Laos.

Disabled tanker on way to Los Angeles
A disabled tanker carrying 14 million gallons of jet fuel moves slowly toward Los Angeles under tow by the tug Pacific Mariner and Coast Guard cutter Venturous. The S S Connecticut, 676 feet long with 41 crew, had pumps out and water flooding the engine room after 70 knot winds left it in danger of sinking near 170 miles off the Southern California coast. A Coast Guard helicopter delivered portable pumps and two Navy specialists to the vessel.

Seaplane Kills Two in Catalina Harbor Collision
Two men in a 19 foot powerboat were killed when a Catalina Airlines Goose seaplane brushed the craft while landing in Avalon harbor. FAA investigators probe the first such accident since the harbor opened to seaplanes in the 1950s. Victims are Clarence Nurmi of Newport Beach and Robert Hill of Corona Del Mar. Pilot Jackson Hughes, 45, said he pulled up at the last moment but struck the boat.
