Fugitive Cantrell Dies By Suicide During Pursuit in Oregon Case
Authorities investigated the death by self-inflicted gunshot of John Obe Cantrell a 21 year old Salem Oregon fugitive. Cantrell reportedly fled from Lompoc police in a stolen car speeding up to 100 mph before stopping beside a telephone pole and shooting himself as officers closed in near Highway 1 and Highway 135. The case traces to a January 7 armed robbery investigation and Cantrell had used another name while on the run.
