Transportation study urged by Santa Barbara planners
The Citizens Planning Association of Santa Barbara County asks the County Cities Area Planning Council to study transportation needs of seniors youths the handicapped and low income residents. David Gebhard says funds from the Transportation Development Act should be used for research next year and a uniform countywide public transport policy should emerge with city and unincorporated areas coordinated. He offers cooperation and notes 97 percent of this year’s funds are spent with 3 percent left for research. Additionally county land conservation figures show 409 809 acres preserved as of Jan 2 with potential rise to over 440 000 by March lien date. Acreage includes prime and non-prime land and reflects tax adjustments amid development pressure. Past totals show 128 704 acres admitted in 1970 and 101 474 in 1968 with 1972 projected at 48 478 acres, the third highest in six years.
