White House to seek more time on Watergate subpoenas

The White House asked the Senate Watergate Committee for an extension past the 10 a.m. EST deadline to respond to subpoenas for documents and tapes. Sam Dash said Nixon aides planned to refuse turnover of any tapes, while extending the request to pare down the material. The panel will wait on Sirica’s ruling on the original tapes case before deciding further action, with the panel slated to wind up February 28.

Lompoc city workers sign three year pay pact

City and the Lompoc City Employees Association signed a three year agreement raising wages for 11 of 14 job classifications and increasing the 1976 cost of living cap to seven percent. The deal includes higher 1974 raises for several classifications and 100 percent life insurance, with a CPI tied schedule for future years.

Second American woman arrested in London gun case

Counter espionage agents detained a second American woman at Heathrow arriving from New York, linked to Allison Thompson and two men charged with firearms conspiracy. Thompson, 18, Santa Barbara, and the two men were arrested last week after five pistols and ammunition were found in a false-bottom suitcase. The unidentified woman is described as tall with dark hair, in her early 20s, and a known associate of Thompson and the two men.

Winter storm lashes Lompoc causing widespread damage

A Southern California winter storm toppled nearly 40 trees in Lompoc and dumped 1.37 inches of rain. Parks crews cleared toppled trees in Crestview Terrace and the 500 block of South C Street while Street Department workers pumped flooding from intersections and drains through the night and into morning.

Radomes Cover Antennas At Vandenberg Site

Feature details the four white domes at Vandenberg with fiberglass radomes housing large antennas. Built 1965 to 1969, sizes range from 46 to 60 foot dish diameters, two smallest now inactive. Six other radome stations form a global DoD satellite tracking network operated from SAMSO Los Angeles and Sunnyvale.

Vote Tonight Could End Southern California Food Shortages

In Southern California nine counties face sporadic shortages as rank and file members of four striking unions vote on tentative pacts. Wage increases range from 77 cents to $1.19 per hour with union leaders urging approval. If accepted, full food supplies could return by Monday as managers and non union staff kept stores open during the dispute.
