Ocean and freshwater fishing report mixed with license hike opposition

Rough seas kept most ocean anglers home while bottom fishers on piers found some success with rock crabs. Surf fishing improved at Oceano and Guadalupe beaches. Steelhead appeared near Arroyo Grande Creek and St Luis Obispo Creek, with recent rains stirring rivers. Freshwater updates cover Paso Robles, Nacimiento, Margarita, Lopez, Cachuma, Casitas, and Ventura County lakes with varying results and stocking notes. A proposed ocean fishing license fee hike faces strong industry opposition, affecting landing operators and private parties. Pheasant hunting on public grounds was severely washed out, with 2,800 birds bagged and bear-heavy Shasta Trinity counts. one long-lived ringneck pheasant noted in life-history study.
