Massive narcotics raid nets 37 arrests in Lompoc

A task force including Lompoc police and county and state agents arrested 37 people after raid of multiple residences in Lompoc. The operation, aimed at heroin LSD and marijuana trafficking, yielded thousands of dollars in contraband and eight juveniles among those taken into custody. Further suspects and contraband were uncovered as the sweep continued after 4 PM yesterday.

Lompoc Council Hears Recycling Pilot Proposal From Garrett R D

The Lompoc City Council voted to invite Garrett Research and Development to present a $1.6 million solid waste recycling program. Bruce Sharpe of Youth Ecology Action announced a Self-contained pyrolysis furnace and discussed a possible Lompoc pilot project with a city share around $400,000 and potential tonnage yields. The discussion also noted landfill costs and ongoing narcotics arrests in the area.

Lockheed rejects DOD settlement offer on C5A funding

Lockheed Aircraft Corp rejected the Defense Department proposal for a 200 million fixed loss to continue C5A transport production. Chairman Daniel J. Lompoc Promotes Space Shuttle Site Steps Taken

Lompoc city officials form a nine member committee to push the space shuttle program to California and possibly Vandenberg AFB. Council appoints Councilman E C Stevens and Mayor Art Scott. other members include two Chamber of Commerce members, two Economic Development Commission members, and County Supervisor Francis H Beattie. The project is a $6 billion potential industry with political site considerations. The council also moves to apply for a state grant of $28,711 for a youth services program in the police department at a total cost of about $47,853. They commend Lompoc High School cross country for 49 straight meets and present a Parks and Recreation Commission plaque. A feasibility study for a 9.3 acre park between the shopping center and high school is authorized.
