Fog and bus strike cripple Los Angeles traffic

Meandering fog banks and a bus strike halted the nation's third largest urban bus system in Los Angeles. A Pomona freeway crash involving 69 cars injured 12 people, eight seriously, and closed the road for over three hours while wreckers cleared 49 wrecks. The RTC strike left 400,000 commuters scrambling by car or ride share, causing central city traffic to slow 20 to 30 minutes and prompting taxi demand to surge 200 percent. Authorities hoped for an early settlement as talks continued between RTC management and Amalgamated Transit Workers Union with wage and cost of living provisions at issue.
