Flood devastates Buffalo Creek Valley towns in West Virginia
MINERS in Buffalo Creek Valley faced a wall of water when a coal waste dam failed. The 18 mile long valley saw 14 mining communities wiped out as 60 bodies were found, 300 missing, and 4,000 left homeless. National Guardsmen and federal aid were mobilized.
