Benje Hayward earns CIF berth for state wrestling showdown
Cabrillo’s Benje Williams places second at 123 pounds in the CIF Southern Section tournament earning a trip to the state meet at Cal State Hayward. Williams lost 4-1 to Jim Mendoza of St. John Bosco in the finals. Mendoza is the 1973 CIF 115-pound champion. Williams escapes for his lone point after a late hand-locking call. Cadre from Lompoc and other Cabrillo wrestlers did not advance. CIF finals telecast planned on NBC March 31 at 10:30 a.m.
